Stimulating Scalp Treatment with EOs & Whipped Coconut Oil!

Make Your Own Whipped Coconut & Essential Oil Infused Scalp Treatment

I must say, I'm in love with this glossy scalp treatment!  Revel in the cool plop of coconut oil and tingling essential oils on your scalp.  Pure Heaven!!

We scrub and rub moisturizer on our bodies regularly, why don't we give more attention to our poor scalp?  Think of the hair products you use on a daily basis, prolonged use produces buildup, clogged pores and hair follicles.  Hair loss and slow hair growth are often caused by the buildup of hardened sebum.  Over time this buildup causes flaking and can eventually effect the hair follicles ability to function properly.  A little TLC with some DIY ingenuity can get rid of the flakes and promote fast and healthy hair growth!

This recipe is infused with doTERRA Melaleuca and Rosemary essential oils.

  • Melaleuca is great for treating dry, flaky scalps.  You'll be left with a clean, tingling scalp!  Tip:  Put 3 to 4 drops of Melaleuca in your favorite shampoo to avoid future buildup and help with any dandruff issues.
  • Rosemary stimulates the scalp and promotes faster hair growth.  Tip:  Add 2 to 3 drops of Rosemary to your hairbrush :)

Start with 1/2 Cup of Coconut Oil, add 1 teaspoon Olive Oil.

2 drops Melaleuca
4 drops Rosemary

Now, to make a yummy (don't eat it, although you could!) glossy treatment, whip the ingredients together!

If you have an applicator brush like this, with a pointed end to help you make your parts...all the better!

Call me strange, but I LOVE when my hair stylist parts my hair with the end of one of these applicator brushes, using the other end to plop the cooling goop of hair color that hides my dreaded gray roots :))

Ahhhh...

A regular comb will work for parting hair as well but, you'll need a small brush to work the glossy treatment into your thirsty scalp.

It's best to apply to scalp when your hair is dry and it's absolutely okay to comb it down into the hair strands too!

Let the treatment sit on the scalp for 15 minutes.  You can cover your head with a towel or shower cap to keep the moisture in.

Now shampoo and condition!  Your scalp will continue to feel cool, tingly and clean for several hours afterwards!  So lovely!

  1. I've been "no poo" for about 3 weeks now and loving it (I use baking soda and vinegar). Anyway, I would love to try this scalp treatment but I'm wondering if I would need to use regular shampoo to wash it out? Or would the baking soda/water be enough to wash it out? Thanks for your help!

    1. I have found that if BS & vinegar won't remove oils like this, then baby shampoo or Dr, B's castile soap must be used. Usually twice for me.

    2. BS won't remove oil. I've tried that before and had to use shampoo to wash the oil out :(

    3. It might, it's very individual. I would use aleppo soap to wash it out. :)

    2. Vaisshali,
I believe coconut oil consistency is very dependent on the temperature around it. It is possible that the coconut oil in the above picture is COOL. It is my experience with coconut oil in Delhi that it is hard and white in winter and liquid and clear in summer. So just make it as described above and if it is a liquid that is fine, it will work the same. If you want the above consistency just pop it in the fridge and see if you can harden it up before you whip it.

    3. Per the recipe you whip all this together. That's why it looks like cream. Hope this helps.

  3. Karen, I have been using baking soda with a vinegar rinse for over 2 months, and I love it! I've found that it's great at getting oil out of my hair (either coconut - from "washing" my face or argan - for deep conditioning my hair) It even got henna out (which takes tons of conditioner and shampoo). I would strongly suggest against going back to shampoo if at all possible. It'll just "confuse" the oil glands in your scalp and may result in extra hair loss. Just my $.02. :)

  5. This could well be the answer to my dandruff problem! Is Melaleuca same as Tea Tree oil?

    1. If you have Lemon or Peppermint, they should be good alternatives to try.

  7. Eucalyptus and Lavender are also good for the scalp. I have a apple cider vinegar rinse that I use when my scalp starts to get too itchy or dry from the weather. It's about 2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar to 8 oz water with 2-4 drops each of melaleuca, eucalyptus, lavender and 1 drop wintergreen. I rub it in when I pour it onto my scalp. I think it would be a great after treatment to the coconut, or even adding those to it, with the vinegar rinse afterward.

  8. On the third day of using the vinegar and baking soda treatment and morrocan oil after, the bottom layer of my hair started falling out a lot and i am only 14. Should I stop using the treatment or is that normal?

  9. I just made and applied this right before I saw this article. used Coconut, Tea Tree and a few drops of Oregano oil.

  10. Ashley French: Unless it is pure Morracan oil, it is not good for your hair. All these hair companies jumped on a band wagon and sell this crap as all natural "GOOD" for your hair stuff! Not so!!! Morracan oil sold in most places, is NOT good for your hair and can cause your hair to fall out. Also, depending on how clogged your hair follicles were, it may be normal to lose more hair than normal, due to you have cleaned out all the dead cells and clogged poor's. IF it is falling out in clumps, you may have an allergic reaction to one of the oils you are using!

  12. Ladies please remember if you are pregnant you can not use rosemary oil. IT IS TOXIC TO PREGNANT WOMEN! Pregnant women can not inhale rosemary oil either. However it is completely safe to use if you want to become pregnant just discontinue the use of rosemary oil if you find that you have become pregnant.

I love this treatment. I love the way it makes my hair feel afterwards. I use it because I color my hair and it can take a toll on it. It takes away that straw feeling after many color treatments for many years. It leaves my hair looking healthy and shiny. LOVE IT! Just remember preggies OMIT ROSEMRY OIL. You can look up essential oils pregnant women should avoid. Lovely Ladies, Lovely Hair! SHINE ON!

  18. Hi!Can I use lavender oil instea of the other one?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Folks, the reason some shampoos don't remove oils like this effectively has less to do with using than the way you use it. Apply shampoo to dry hair. It will help emulsify the oils and make them easier to remove. Wash out with warm water, and repeat if necessary in the usual manner.

  20. im no expert but I definitely don't recommend leaving it over night. It can actually over process your hair and make your hair feel oversift and limp like soft noodles. As for the oil...you don't really need to wash out of your hair you just need to make your make sure your scalp is clean is the key. I have very curly hair it's considered to be 3a type and I have on the no poo method for about 6 months now my hair is never looked better. I do this method with coconut oil about once a week and rub it with fingertips in circles into my scalp. makes it very shiny and my scalp feels really clean after a thourough rinse under hot water. check out the curly girl method for more info for waves ot curls.

anyway, hot water, lots of rubbing thd scalp and you will end loving coconut oil. try trader joes brand to. it is organic and only about $6.
