What's for Dinner Tonight? CW Extra!

Afternoon everybody!  It's time to answer that "old as dirt" question:

What's for dinner tonight?

Lucky for us, it's summer time and grilling season.  I have a quick marinade for steak that will rock your world!  Only 2 ingredients besides S & P, and 30 to 60 minute marinade time.

Marinade: 1 part Balsamic Vinegar
                      1 part Whiskey

Fill a 1 - 1/2 oz shot glass with 1 part vinegar to 1 part whiskey.  This will be enough marinade for two steaks (I placed my wedding band next to glass so you can get a better idea the size of the glass).

Marinate your steaks for 30 min to an hour and grill!

Bon Appetit!

Rebecca

Do you have ANY idea what it would take to get my hubby to give up any of his single malt? Wonder if Jack Daniels would work...we'll go cheap.

Ha! Tell him it would be an investment in good taste...yummy steak! I'm sure Jack would be fine though :)

I plan on using some of my favorite staples to see which works better: 12-year Tullamore Dew or 18-year Jameson.

Personally, I've never tasted such "staples" before so, I say use the most expensive one you've got ;)

Would this work for tri-tip?? I'm not a meat person but this sounds so wonderful and simple and I'm smoking 6 tri-tips on my traeger for a family reunion this saturday and sounds perfect!!

I'd do it in a heartbeat! In fact, that's a great idea to marinate, then smoke. We smoke on a Big Green Egg, I'm gonna try this too :)

You should still try to sear the steak. Best way for the traeger (cheating...but I love them!) is to let it smoke for a period of time (maybe 15-20 minutes), then sear them. I don't know how you would do that if you are only using a traeger, but that would probably give you the best flavor.

Didn't get to marinate as long as I hoped but it still delicious. I even made a reduction of the whiskey and balsamic with a little butter to pour on top. Yum!

I would just like to point out that whiskey is not whiskey. Pictured in the above picture is a very decent bourbon. Although still in the whiskey family, a bourbon is extremely different from jack daniels and equally different from a single malt(which btw refers to a scotch). A bourbon would do very well in a marinade of this kind where as a scotch, be it single or blended, would be horrible save a few rare types of scotch. A Tennessee whiskey such as jack daniels would be just as bad as a scotch because although they are technically a bourbon they do not have the sweetness or some of the classic bourbon flavors that would make this marinade great.
but that being said...You have to actually like whiskey if you are going to like this.

Have to agree ... there's Bourbon, there's Whiskey ... 2 different worlds in my opinion (not a whiskey girl, but love a good bourbon ...) Scotch? Um, no thank you. Just not my cup of tea.

How about a good old Canadian Rye whiskey, which in my humble opinion rates higher than bourbon or scotch!

I use Jack Daniels in my marinades a lot. I will have to try it with the basalmic vinegar.

Awesome quick marinade! We absolutely loved this. We used Woodford Reserve too and topped it with the whiskey butter (we used ghee) recipe found here: http://www.recipe.com/cowboy-steak-and-whiskey-butter/

Thanks for the recipe!!
