How to Beat Chronic Ear Infections With Basil!

Not a happy camper!

It's so hard to watch a baby or child suffer with an ear infection, they're just plain painful and lead to sleepless nights and very long days for both parent and child!  But there's good news...very, very good news!

The solution to a peaceful, pain free little one is simple when using doTERRA essential oils and, you just might be amazed!  You can win the battle against chronic ear infections with a simple application of just one beautifully effective oil.

Because pure essential oils are without side effects, they're perfect to treat our children with.  It's important though to dilute most essential oils when administering to children.  Simply add a few drops of coconut oil or olive oil to one drop of essential oil for gentle dilution.

Combine a few drops of carrier oil such as coconut or oil with 2 drops of doTERRA Basil essential oil and dab a cotton ball for ease of application into the oil.

Gently wipe just inside the ear, around the outer edge and behind the ear.

Never drop oil inside of the ear!

Apply several times a day until symptoms disappear and soon your end result will be this:  a peaceful, pain free child.

Shhhhh...baby sleeping :)

  1. Thanks for this tip! I've passed it on to my son & daughter-in-law, one of their twins has had tubes twice and still has trouble. He's 5 now, but I figure it should still work.

    1. Basil will cure the ear infection AND ease the pain if used consistently, it's a natural antibiotic. But again, only 100% pure essential oils like doTERRA that are certified pure therapeutic grade will be potent enough to get that result! Much healthier and less expensive than a Dr. visit, copay and prescription.

  3. I looked it up just to read the properties and was a little concerned at the precautions. Several different sites state do not use on children under 16.

    Precautions

Although basil oil usually stimulates, in excess it can have a stupefying effect and should not be used during pregnancy or on children under 16 years.

    Contra Indications
Do not use sweet Basil Oil if you are pregnant. Use caution if you have hypersensitive skin or skin problems. Do not use Basil oil in baths - this is a hot oil. sweet basil oil is not recommended for use on children under 16. If you are pregnant, epileptic, have liver damage, have cancer, or have any other medical problem, use essential oils only under the proper guidance of a qualified aromatherapy practitioner. Don't forget to blend basil oil with a carrier oil prior to skin application. A skin patch test should be conducted prior to using an oil that you've never used before.

    1. As with everything else I've written about the use of essential oils, I only recommend PURE plant essences such as doTERRA products. I understand that you want to do your research, that's always a good idea but do me a favor and research doTERRA's high standard of essential oils...the purest on the market. No additives, rigorous testing for purity and potency. Most essential oils on the market today contain additives and are NOT tested for impurities such as pesticides. I agree, those inferior products should NOT be given to infants OR adults. It's important that you research pure plant essence and their complete compatability with the human body. If an essential oil is pure, they are SAFE and precautions that you copied and pasted are unnecessary. Please don't spread misinformation unless you've done ALL the homework.

  4. What are your thoughts on Oregano oil for ear infections?

  5. I think Oregano is too hot and really, basil and even melaleuca are VERY effective if used consistently.

  6. My son suffers with inner ear infections. Those are infections behind the ear drum, Otis media. This method seems like it may be effective with infections that are outside of the ear drum, commonly referred to as Swimmer's Ear. Tubes are put in the ears for inner ear infections and not swimmer's ear. I would love to know if it would work for inner ear infections and how. Otherwise I am not sure this method would work for me.

    1. Amy, a PURE essential oil can penetrate a cell membrane, yes...use of a PURE EO can help with inner infections, amazingly so in fact.

  7. I would like to know as well, as my SIL is planning on inserting tubes into my niece's ears fairly soon. I think this procedure can be avoided and remedied naturally. I also have been reading that having babies adjusted/and or massaged by a chiropractor could aid in decreasing ear infections as well.

    1. Use of a PURE essential oil can most definitely address an inner ear infection if use properly and consistently.
