Coconut Oil & Honey ~ Natural Remedy Base

A Darn Near Perfect Pair

It doesn't get much simpler than this!  A little coconut oil, some honey, a blender and a jar, creamy coconut oil and honey helps the medicine go down (and oatmeal taste great).  This is where the darn near perfect comes in, it's both medicinal and yummo!

Choose Your Honey!

Manuka Honey

If you're treating a wound, sore throat, cough, or any general malady like cold or flu, Manuka honey is your best bet for it's live antibacterial and antibiotic properties.  Manuka has an herby taste but, it's still sweet and delicious in it's own way.  Because it's a little pricey, I only use this honey in my home remedies.

Raw Organic & Local Honey

Honey has anti-viral and anti-microbial properties.  It's widely recognized for it's ability to calm a cough making it a much better choice than the over the counter options.  Local honey is believed to be helpful for allergies.  Dr. Mercola has an in-depth article {Here} for more insight.  I realize for many of you, local honey can be a challenge.  If that's the case, choose raw and organic. When I don't have access to local, I like Tropical Traditions honey from Canada.  FYI: If you watch the website closely, TT has FREE shipping offers often!

Coconut Oil
______________________________

Coconut oil is one of the richest sources of Lauric Acid, known for it's pathogen fighting properties.  Lauric Acid is a saturated fat found in breast milk packed with immune building properties. More and more studies on coconut oil's ability to slow Alzheimer's are on going, coconut oil is helpful for hypothyroid and diabetes.
I'm quite partial to Tropical Traditions Gold Label coconut oil because it's hand processed, not machine manufactured and, makes the creamiest All Purpose Healing Salve around.  For all the information on coconut oil you would ever need to know {Click Here}

I can't stress enough how powerfully simple yet effective the combination of coconut oil and honey can be.

Not to mention VERSATILE!

You can easily create a blockbuster remedy by adding essential oils to the honey/coconut base. Using PURE EOs allows you to take add a drop of Lemon for a cough, or a drop of Shield protective blend for a sore throat.  The list goes on and on! On the other end of versatility, it's darn good on toast and a great moisturizing facial :)

THE HOW TO!
______________________________________

1 cup softened coconut oil
1/2 to 1 cup honey  (I use a generous 1/2 cup)

Add the coconut oil to the blender first followed by the honey. Blend until mixed, don't over blend.  You may see small spots of honey after the combination hardens but that's just fine.

Pour into a glass jar!  Refrigeration isn't necessary unless you live in a hot climate and prefer it in a more solid state.

And that's it!  A great medicinal yet tasty base for all your natural remedies including toast!

My uncle has beehives so I use local honey. Will that still be as good as manuka honey? I love all the great info on your site. Thank you for all the research you do for us.

This will be a good thing to have around, I use "real" Ceylon cinnamon with my local honey, for coughing works like a charm! I have asthma and COPD!

Manuka honey is produce in New Zealand and Austria I believe from the Manuka Tree. That is where it gets its herby taste from.

Thanks for sharing Rebecca ~ I am wondering what you use this mix for and how you use it? Can you share some ideas, examples please? Thanks!

I'm hoping for that, too! Not sure what to do with this. Put it in tea? Just eat a spoonful?

I use it as a carrier oil for ingesting pure essential oils. An example would be: 1 drop of Shield Protective Blend (a spicy blend with cinnamon and clove) in a teaspoon of coconut honey to swallow easily...adding the combined benefits of EOs, the coconut oil and honey. It's also lovely in tea!

I just made this in the food processor (no lumps), and it is delicious! It's very rich; a little goes a long way. Some ways I plan to use it: smoothies, herbal, breakfast breads (French toast, pancakes, waffles, muffins, biscuits), fruit dip or gently heated for a drizzle on fruit or granola. I'm going to add vanilla bean seeds to the next batch-yum!

I'm going to make this tomorrow just as soon as I get home from one of the local health food stores. I'd already been planning to go tomorrow (Tuesdays are the day everyone gets 10% off your purchase and I'm not one to refuse saving a little moolah). Then, this morning, I realized I'd used up the last of my lemon EO so added that to the list. I've had a nagging cough and some respiratory issues that have held on through two rounds of antibiotics and prednisone...time to try something different...and I know this will be delish!
