Hello Scented Coconut Oil ~ Bye Bye Candle Wax Cubes!
I confess, I love my candle wax warmers!
Especially my campy one, it suits me to a tee but, I couldn't tolerate the synthetic scents that came along with! Do you know what I mean? I really loved the "idea" of the wax warmers though, the soft light, the on and off switch rather than a flame, it was a sad day when I cleaned them out and took them downstairs to the "dun da dun dun"...storage room!
A few weeks ago I wrote about repurposing forgotten candle wax warmers by adding water and essential oils...brother! Better than the synthetic stuff but hardly wonderful...water evaporates, hello?
While slathering this super hero of a product on my face this morning (w/ Frankincense of course), a freaking light bulb went off!
Scented Coconut Oil In Candle Warmers!
{with doTERRA essential oils}
Most of us have it in the house right? Whoa baby! I was so excited to try this I was running around in PJs much longer than usual this morning! "ahem"
One of the exciting aspects of the whole idea? Coconut oil hardens when cool. Jeeez, I feel like I've hit the motherlode! I saved my campy candle wax warmer from the storage room and brought it back to life with coconut and essential oils ~ without bothersome evaporation! As you know by now, I love my EOs too, so there's a double dose of happy goin on at Camp Wander today, let me tell ya!
A most exciting fact to consider and be happy about is the ability to create scent in your home that's completely toxin free! This is always a good thing, especially for allergy and asthma sufferers.
The basic recipe is simple: 1 to 2 Tablespoons of Coconut Oil,
6 to 12 drop of doTERRA essential oils
The skies the limit when choosing your scents. This time of year, of course a few drops of Holiday Joy Blend is fabulous! A Christmas tree scent combination of 6 drops White Fir, 4 drops Frankincense and 1 drop of Wild Orange rocks it too. There will be a slight coconut fragrance in the mix but I love it
If you have any of these sweet plug-ins, they're great in the kitchen, bedroom or bath! Here's some essential oil combinations to try...

For the Bedroom or Bath:
Lavender & Lemon
Balance & Lavender
Happy, Merry Heavenly Scented Holidays!

I love the coconut oil idea! I pulled my out of storage after reading your post last week. I'll try to the oil now. :) I just got an order of 5 gallons. :)
you are so fabulous. brilliant idea. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your blog. i'm almost giddy when it comes.
What a great idea! I have 5 candle warmers around my house! Can't wait to try it!
Excellent!!!!!
You are a genius! I am so going to try this receipe out!
lol, I made a similar discovery today with scented Beeswax and EO's. I do like your coconut oil solution better, much simpler to make - thank you I'm gonna try it first thing in the morning!
Great idea - I just changed my warmer over from wax to coconut oil. Thanks for sharing your "aha!" moment. It'll also be much easier to clean out! I've got Holiday Joy in it now, but after the holidays I'll switch to Citrus Bliss, as it's my absolute favorite scent of all the oils.
This is wonderful... I just got a couple of these Warner's thinking they would be better than sliced bread... But the scents are just too much for me... Can't wait to try my own now!
Cannot wait to go to Costco and buy the huge jar of cold pack coconut oil Cost was around $23.00 for a 4lb jar. Tired of the Scentsy stuffing up my nose!!
Do you have to add the essential oils?
If you’re out to make your own scents, you’re only limited by your creativity and imagination. Figuring out what scents go well together is an art in and of itself. Mixing a wonderful blend of scents isn’t really my forte, but going for the purist approach with lavender or vanilla scent is good enough for my family!

Isn't it dangerous to heat coconut oil that way? I know it has a very low melting point, which means it will flame at a lower temp than other oils and waxes. Am I right? I could be wrong, but I know it says on mine that it's not recommended for cooking at high temps. If it works, great, but I was just concerned about the safety.
My candle wax warmers are heated by a small lightbulb, the heat reached is relatively low but thanks for your concern :))
I love the coconut oil idea! Definitely going to pull out the ole warmers too. I did want to mention that the plug in you show is a hazard you may not have heard. My fireman son showed me a report that said the largest percentage of house fires are caused by these plug ins! Just wanted to pass along that important information!
Peggy, thanks for that infomation! I hadn't heard that before, my plug-ins are about to be unplugged :))
I now have two Scentsy plug-ins and have removed the wax (butter knife down the edge of hardened wax and it pops right out) and am going to try this right now with some Shield blend that I mixed up! I actually bought the second warmer today at Goodwill for $3 - just for this purpose, as I remembered this post and needed a good way to diffuse Shield in the house. :) YEA!!
I'm assuming I could also use beeswax pastilles and EOs if I wanted something more "solid" when it cools - right?
I just did this earlier and added about 10 drops of Shield and I can't really smell it. I don't know if it's that I'm used to the smell or that I need to add more drops. Guess I can't really overdo it, though. :)
Mine didn't work as good.
Maybe I did something wrong.
I am having the same problem
Heating essential oils breaks them down and weakens their therapeutic benefits.
