DIY Be Slimmer & Sassier Essential Oil Blends

My Favorite EO Blends for Weight Loss
{and a good night's sleep}

Several weeks ago I came across a comment by an EO user who talked about the success she was having losing weight using an Bergamot essential oil.  I filed this away in my pea brain and continued reading.  Not 2 days later, I stumbled on a similar comment basically sharing the same success but with a variation of EOs.  I knew I had to try it and share the info with you :)

___________________________________________

This is a simple, clean, good for you weight loss blend that doesn't taste that great but it works.

You'll need to be consistent and practice sensible eating, stay hydrated and exercise regularly!

Hello Bergamot!

When I began using EOs, Bergamot was an immediate favorite.  I started using it in the diffuser with Lavender, this is still one of my favorite diffuser blends.  Bergamot has lots of redeeming qualities aside from it's bright, citrusy fragrance.  It's a weight loss aid, can reduce LDL cholesterol levels and raise HDL cholesterol levels.  Please read this article by Dr. Edward F. Group:  The Weight Loss Benefits of Bergamot Essential Oil.

Add Frankincense for core health - this actually works great for me because I take Frankincense daily anyway, rolling it into this blend has become a real time saver.

Remember, Frankincense is the great enhancer of any or all oils it's blended with so go ahead Frank, work your magic with Bergamot - it's all good.  AND, Frank has diuretic properties, it helps to move the water on through!

Adding Wild Orange EO aids in digestion, speeds metabolism and wards off constipation.  As a citrus EO, it's bright, cheering and keeps gloomy, self defeating thoughts at bay.

DIY Slimmer & Sassier Blend  #1
{my personal fav}____________________________________

1 part Bergamot
1 part Frankincense
1 part Wild Orange

Fill a glass bottle to your liking.  I use an empty 15ml bottle, fill with equal parts of all three EOs then top with a glass eye dropper.

For adults:  6 drops under tongue or in a shot glass of water etc. At least 3x a day, 4 is better!  It's a bitter blend, don't say I didn't warn you but, you can do it.  A piece of gum comes in real handy throughout the day, trust me.

What has this blend done for me?  I feel like I'm metabolizing food much quicker and my thoughts are clearer and lest I forget to mention the really good stuff ~ jeans are looser!
Remember, you need to be consistent and take your 6 drops at least 3x a day.

DIY Slimmer & Sassier Blend #2
{my fav for sleep}_____________________________________

This is a Do It Yourself Gem!  Before doTERRA's Slim and Sassy Blend was introduced, Dr. Hill recommended this blend for weight loss: 1 drop cinnamon, 2 drops each of grapefruit, ginger and lemon.  Because SS has peppermint, I've tweaked the recipe by adding peppermint:

Single Shot Glass, Water Glass or Gel Cap Serving:

1 drop cinnamon bark {helps to metabolize sugar}
2 drops ginger  {helps cells to release fat}
2 drops peppermint  {decrease appetite, reduce cravings}
2 drops lemon
2 drops grapefruit  {grapefruit and lemon both contain limonene.  Studies show that limonene can slow the increase of fat cells and, reduce the size of fat cells in a process called lipolysis.}

To Fill a 15ml Empty Bottle (almost):

20 drops cinnamon bark
40 drops ginger
40 drops peppermint
40 drops lemon
40 drops grapefruit

This blend works as an appetite suppressant, lots of people enjoy it in their drinking water throughout the day.  Sounds crazy I know but this is my favorite sleep aid blend!!  No kidding, I roll this on my feet and pads of toes and sleep like the proverbial log.   Why does this work for sleep too?  The EOs balance blood sugar and calm adrenals, often the culprit for keeping us awake at night.

As always, the food we choose to eat throughout the day is key!  EOs will help with cravings but ultimately it's our food choices that will determine our success.  Be consistent!  Consistency is the secret to success in EO use because pure plant essence is quickly absorbed, utilized in the body then let go.  This is exactly what we want, no build up to cause side effects.

Much success to you, carry your water bottle everywhere, stay well and enjoy the EO Life!

P.S.  Give Spark Naturals EOs a try, they're a pure EO and very special too.  You'll save money three ways:  price point, flat rate shipping - $6.49 in the US and by using the code: campwander, an additional 10% off entire order :)

When you say "1 part bergamot" What constitutes a Part?

do we mix fractionated coconut oil in the 15 ml bottle? I've been looking for something to regulate my blood sugar levels.

Whatever you want that to be...depending on the size bottle you want to fill. A 5ml bottle holds approximately 85 drops so 25 drops each EO would work. A 15ml bottle holds approximately 285 drops...so 80 drops each EO would work. Just make sure the EOs are added in equal parts - determined by the size bottle you choose :)

I use this blend internally therefore I don't add FCO but if you're going to apply topically you certainly can add a small amount of FCO to the blend!

So glad u posted this. Was going to start combining oils I got for the weightloss but wasn't really sure where to start. forgot to get cinnamon so will have to order. Would this be helpful if diffused also? Thanks so much

Sue

Yes, diffusing is a great option also, I'm so glad you mentioned it :)

i have another dumb question. but, i have several ailments at once. diabetes, allergies, and now i have a yeast infection (grrr). is using too much EOs at the same time possible?

Are this blends safe to take while nursing?

So this would work topically? I'm new to EOs. I have done some research and I'm leery of taking it internally.

I wouldn't use the blend with Peppermint, it's safe but can reduce breast milk.

At June 9, 2013 at 5:16 PM , Blogger Rebecca said...

Yes, you can use the blends topically as well.

Whenever I've seen essential oils, it always says 'never use internally'. Are there any special oils to use internally or are they just overcautious?

At June 9, 2013 at 6:17 PM , Blogger Michele O said...

Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade (CPTG™) essential oils represent the safest, purest, and most beneficial essential oils available today. These are the only ones you can take internally.

Noticed that Shield has Cinnamon and was wondering if I could use a few drops of it in your Slimmer and Sassier blend # 2 ( for sleep) or would all the other ingredients interfere. Thanks.

In #2 when you make the 15ml bottle, do you use 10 drops at a time like in the shot/gel cap or do you just put a few drops in and try to get to 10 drops/day?
Thanks! I was wondering about this after your last diy blend post. You must have been reading my mind!

At June 10, 2013 at 12:43 AM , Blogger Rebecca said...

Michelle that's not true. CPTG is simply a trademark...there is no science or certification behind it. The FDA does not regulate essential oils at this time. Look for a PURE, therapeutic grade EO such as Spark Naturals or doTERRA as well as others and be sure label states for internal or dietary use.

With this blend, I would use 6 drops of the blend to a glass of water or capsule or, apply topically to abdomen or trouble spots. But you can use less or more, you'll need to see what your body responds to :)

Good question! You could try it Sue, it wouldn't do any harm but I'm not sure you would get enough cinnamon to be effective.

Would a sweet orange work? What would be the difference in that and wild orange?

Where do you get your bottles and roll on toppers? I've seen several online, but most of them are clear bottles, and I thought that dark brown or blue would be best to keep the potency of the EOs.

a) Should Slimmer & Sassier #2 (SS2) be done only once per day or 3x's per day like Slimmer & Sassier #1 (SS1)?
b) If SS2 works best by using it 3x's per day as well, then could we just add the 6 drops of SS1 into the mix of SS2 and have the same effect, or is using them separately best (i.e. down a shot of SS1 and then down a shot of SS2)?

If it were me, I'd take #1 internally and use #2 as a topical application for problem areas or, for sleep. Taking both blends internally 3x daily could be hard on your stomach.

I was approached at work not to long ago with an inquiry about a weight loss blend for your feet.
The individuals had friends who were showing great success using a blend of: almond oil, eucalyptus, camphor, wintergreen and peppermint on their feet in the evening.
What would you say the blending amounts would be on that? It was really interesting, on man who had started doing it at night had lost 16 pounds in a months time and had since lost 30 pounds..
It was very interesting. But I can't find anything with these five ingredients in it.. Any information on this?

so i started about 5 days into trying the slimmer sassy blend #2 as recommended 6 drops 3x a day,under the tongue but i was wondering i have been getting cramps on right side like a menstrual cramp with some right side lower back pain as well could this be the cause of taking the oils orally? doing the oil thing is new to me & i have never had these symptoms before so wondering should I continue taking? should i put the oil in capsules? what do you advise? thank you

If you suspect you're having an adverse reaction you should stop the EO protocol and see if your symptoms clear up. Please stay hydrated too!

I just started doing this and am finding that putting the drops into a shot glass of water & "shooting it", then following it with a glass of lemon water really helps to get the taste of the oils out of your mouth.

I ordered the oils for blend #1 and a few others. I accidentally put cypress in instead of orange. I added the orange, but will it matter that it also has cypress in it? (I bought cypress for the vision blend--got a little too excited mixing before I realized what I had done!)

At September 23, 2013 at 9:54 PM , Blogger Rebecca said...

Linnea, you might want to use the blend with Cypress topically instead of ingesting it...just to play it safe because that's a blend I have no experience with. You can apply to the bottoms of your feet and/or your abdomen.

would it be just as effective for weight loss applied topically?

I've made the sleep salve (boy my feet sure feel good) but I was wondering about taking SS#2 orally. Will this make you sleepy?

At January 3, 2014 at 9:18 PM , Blogger Rebecca said...

No, it won't. The blend allows your body to rest...when it's ready to do so. It won't make you drowsy when you're up about still going about your day.
