Colic, Croup & Constipation ~ Gentle Remedies

An Uncomfortable Baby is an Unhappy Baby!

...and if baby's unhappy, the entire household is unhappy. Colic, croup and constipation are on every parents "dislike" list.

I wish I'd known about essential oils when my kids were babies, I would have saved myself a lot of worry, grief and some sleepless nights.

Colic & Croup:  Believe it or not, one essential oil can help with both colic and croup.  A gentle, natural remedy perfect for baby, kids and adults!

Meet Marjoram

Colic is any extended period of crying and fussiness that occurs frequently in babies.  The exact cause is unknown but it's speculated that the cause is from indigestion, gas build-up, lactose intolerance or, a lack of probiotic bacteria in the intestines.

How to Apply:

Dilute 1 to 2 drops of Marjoram in 1 tablespoon of carrier oil, like fractionated coconut oil and massage a small amount gently on stomach and back every 3 hours or as needed.

Croup is a viral respiratory infection that causes inflammation of the area around the larynx and a barking cough.  Sometimes, taking baby outside to breath cool night air can help open the restricted airways, so can humidity (steamy bathroom).

Diffuse Marjoram or a respiratory blend like Respire into the air, set a diffuser in the nursery if possible.

Dilute 1 to 2 drops of Marjoram in 1 tablespoon of carrier oil and massage a small amount gently on stomach and back every few hours or as needed to help break up the congestion.

Constipation: This unfortunate condition calls for lovely Lavender.

Hello Lavender

Constipation:  happens when waste becomes too hard and dry to expel from baby's little body and feels miserable.

How to apply:

Dilute 1 to 2 drops of Lavender in 1 tablespoon carrier oil and massage on baby's abdomen every 3 hours or, as needed.

Keep in mind when using pure EOs on babies and children, it's always best to dilute them with a carrier oil.  For older children, dilute 1 to 2 drops in 1 teaspoon of carrier oil.  For newborns and infants, dilute 1 to 2 drops in 1 tablespoon of carrier oil.

I appreciate knowing that natural remedies like essential oils are available and fast acting.  Over the counter drugs aren't always the best choice for infants or children nor the most effective, and modern research tells us that there will be side effects.

As always, please enjoy 10% off any Spark Naturals order.

My daughter's little one is only a month old and I use fennel and marjoram with CO. He stopped crying right away and was happy until he fell asleep. I am going to be using it next on my other daughter's little girl who is 2 weeks old and has been constipated since she was a few days old.
