Camp Wander's All Purpose Healing Salve, proving it's usefulness with completely natural healing, softening and antiseptic properties.
Great news! I've created several new ways to put this workhorse of a salve to good use...
I'm very excited to introduce Salve "Blends"!
One recipe of All Purpose Healing Salve and a selection of essential oils can make four 4 oz custom blends simply by changing the essential oils in the basic recipe.
The base of the salve is organic cold pressed coconut oil and olive oil. Coconut oil is a natural moisturizer as well as antibacterial. Olive oil has lots of anti-oxidants, including Hydroxytyrosol and other anti-inflammatory properties.
The Basic Ingredients ~
One recipe will fill four 4 oz glass jam jars.
1 Cup Coconut Oil
1 Cup Olive Oil
4 T. Beeswax Pastilles
1 Cup Olive Oil
4 T. Beeswax Pastilles
Slowly melt the coconut, olive oil and beeswax in a warm bath, stirring with a knife every few minutes until melted. While waiting for the melt, line up four 4 oz jam jars with your essential oils nearby.
Decide which blends you want to create and add the essential oils to each jar before filling.
Now you're ready to fill each jar with the melted coconut and olive oil stopping a half inch from the rim. Let cool until the salve hardens. Top with a paper towel while cooling. Secure lid tightly after the salve hardens.
DIY Immortelle: Frankincense, Lavender and Cypress were the original oils used as an anti-aging blend before doTERRA's fabulous Immortelle was produced and released. While this blend doesn't contain Helichrysum or Rose essential oils, it's a powerful trio creating a potent anti-aging blend that I LOVE and have been using for quite some time now.
With a blend of Frankincense, Lavender and Cypress, your face and body are certain to benefit from their regenerative properties as well as the extra moisturizing properties of coconut and olive oil.
Add 10 drops each to one 4 oz jar.
L.L.P. ~ Lemon, Lavender and Peppermint, an all natural anti-histamine with far reaching benefits! I'm convinced that many chronic issues are a result of an allergic reaction to toxins that we're all exposed to everyday. The L.L.P. protocol has proven itself to be a powerful ally for many!
*At the end of this post, I'll add links to testimonials attributing to this simple protocol with some amazing results!
Especially beneficial for allergies that manifest themselves through skin outbreaks or chronic itching. L.L.P. Salve can compliment your daily L.L.P. protocol along with the added attributes of skin softening, soothing and the antibacterial properties of Lemon, Lavender and Peppermint.
Why not add the L.L.P. blend to your salve in addition to your other applications, allowing even more opportunity for the healing effects of the Lemon, Lavender and Peppermint antihistamine protocol.
Add 10 drops each to one 4 oz jar.
Combining the Peaceful Child Blend of essential oils in a salve just makes sense. After bath time in the evening, little winter chapped hands, scraped knees, dry skin...endless possibilities with soft and peaceful results.
Add 30 drops of Peaceful Child Blend to one 4 oz jam jar.
Rather than turning this blog post a short novel, I'll leave a link to my blog post that explains all of the beneficial properties of Peaceful Child as well as the recipe. {CLICK HERE}
Here you have it, the original All Purpose Healing Salve. This recipe uses the antiseptic properties of Lemon, Melaleuca and Lavender.
I use this salve on my dry skin all the time!
Dry, cracked heels
Chapped hands
Chapped lips
Scaly elbows
After shower moisture
Scratches, bruises, cuts, insect bites
Fungal infections
Diaper rash
Hand sanitizer/moisturizer
Wound salve for horses and dogs
10 drops Lavender
8 drops Lemon
6 drops Melaleuca
Toss a jar of this in your camping gear and you'll be amazed at all it's uses! Scoop a little out of your 4 oz jar, refill an empty pot of your favorite lip balm and toss it into your purse, you just might switch favorites! If I need an emergency hand sanitizer when I'm out and about, I reach for the "lip salve pot".
This salve is so simple, versatile and potent! Make your own and keep it in your Wellness Arsenal. Crafted with pure plant essence, super healthy coconut oil and emollient olive oil you can look younger, dress a wound, calm a child, alleviate allergies and SO much more!

Those sound wonderful Rebecca and I for one, would really welcome an antiviral one too - there's still a lot of winter to get through yet! Thank you for all your help,
ReplyDeleteoooooh Penny, that's brilliant! Flu Bomb Salve! Very nice to hear you...I hope you're well and dousing the Scottish in EOs ;)
DeleteHow would you make a antiviral salve? Which oils and how much of each?
DeleteMaybe a silly question, but do you mix/stir it all together once everything has been added to the jars or just let it sit to cool? Looking forward to making these. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteNot silly! I was wondering the same! :D
DeleteOnce you pour the melted coconut and olive oil on top of the essential oils that you already added to each jar, you won't need to stir because they'll get mixed in but you can for peace of mind :))
DeleteThank you Rebecca! I've made your first healing salve and it's nice. We live in Arizona and when I first made it I was surprised that it wasn't harder, I know our climate has a lot to do with that. I warmed it and added just a little more beeswax =) Great stuff and I can't wait to make these!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jan!
DeleteAny ideas for a salve to treat coldsores? I treat already with witch hazel and lyine, but would like a topical too. Sometimes they can get a little out of hand and I wonder if a topical would have benefits. Thank you!!!
ReplyDeleteyou could do one and add in melaleuca and Lemon balm (melissa) the melaleuca will help kill it and the lemon balm will cut the healing time in half :)
Delete*lysine
ReplyDeleteI take 2 Lysine in the morning and 2 at night. I use the healing salve on my lips. Cold sore is gone in 2 days max and never breaks the skin. I also use Lysine regiment for mouth ulcers or if I bite my tongue or cheek and it works wonderfully. Lysine is an enzyme.
DeleteI might have missed it, but how many drops of each oil do you use for the antiseptic blend of Lemon, Melaleuca, and Lavender? I can't wait to try that one!
ReplyDelete8 drops Lavender
ReplyDelete6 drops Lemon
4 drops Melaleuca
My daughter gets eczema around her eyes from her winter allergies. The base sounds like it would help a lot with that. Any tips on what oils might help as well?
ReplyDeleteBless you and thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHi Rebecca - For the last several months, I'm waking up in the middle of the night having trouble breathing - due to something I'm allergic to in my room. Even tho we are planning on purchasing new pillow and a mattress, I was going crazy. Last nite was the first time in a long time I really slept. I took a capsule and filled it with 3 drops each of LLP. Then I made the salve and slathered it on my feet - I wasnt taking any chances. IT WORKED! IT WORKED! plus my hands and feet are super soft today! I can't wait to make the others!
ReplyDeleteHi Rebecca, I start my day with you everyday and am hoping you have an answer for a problem i have been having for 9 months. I have an anal fissure. I went to a medical doctor after suffering with pain for about a month. He suggested nitroglycerine cream which is an RX he gave me. After suffering i reluctantly tried it and it did not work. Can you suggest an essential oil and method to use to heal the fissure? Thanks for your help.
ReplyDeleteMy apologies for this very late reply! I would use Lavender and Frankincense together 2x daily.
DeleteRebecca, You did a post last may on the same moisturizing salve and added vitamin E, but in the recipe you have today and the one you had in August you don't use it. Is there a reason why?
ReplyDeleteI simplified the recipe to in basic ingredients that most people have already. You can still add the vitamin e if you like! This recipe can be improved upon however you like to suit your needs at the time, this is the beauty of the salve!
DeleteThanks, what does the vit E do? As I have looked through the web for different lip balms I remember reading that the vit E preserves it so it lasts longer, is this true?
DeleteJust wondering which essential oils you would add to this salve for hot flashes and waking up all night.....
ReplyDeleteI would use the L.L.P. blend for hot flashes Sara.
Delete@Dawnelle - the Vit E, a powerful antioxidant. It will help extend the shelf life of a carrier oil-keep it from going rancid. But it is not a preservative. Hope this help!
ReplyDeleteWhere do you purchase your beeswax?
ReplyDeleteI buy mine from Amazon, I can't find them locally!
DeleteCould I ask what brand of beeswax pastilles you use? I am ordering them from Amazon and I see in some of the reviews that some people have trouble with the smell of some of them.
ReplyDeleteI usually buy the organic pastilles :))
Deletejust wondering why you changed the drops of each essential oil for the lavender, lemon, and melaleuca blend? In your original post you have halved the recipe and added like 20 drops instead of 8. Why? Thanks for sharing!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's personal preference, over the last few months I've increased the oils for my own use. I offered the more conservative version originally as a good beginners salve, thanks for asking!
DeleteHi Rebecca - I had the same question, getting ready to make my first batch today! But now I'm confused again, because your original post in August had the 20/10/10 ratio, and this post has the 8/6/4. Did you find that the original was "too much" EO? Also, this may seem like a super dumb question, but are you using doTerra's fractionated coconut oil or solid coconut oil? Can't wait to start making it - but want to do it right!
DeleteLike I said, personal preference! You'll want to use solid cold pressed extra virgin coconut oil, have fun!
DeleteThank you so much! I have everything to make lotion bars out of beeswax and coconut oil and was trying to figure out what essentials oils I wanted to mix in. I can't thank you enough!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome!
DeleteRebecca,
ReplyDeleteI've made the All Purpose Healing Salve and love it. I'm going to make the LLP next for pup. He's a Frenchie and has terrible allergies. I'd be willing to give it try internally for him, but would be concerned over the dosing. He's only 28lbs. I figured I'd try the salve first to see if it helps alleviate some of the itching. He's on a prescription allergy med as well, but not one with steroids in it. Have you heard of anyone trying it on dogs?
Thank you for all you do here. I can't wait to give the LLP a try. I need more Beeswax first....
Thanks Alison :)) I think this is an excellent idea of yours...should be effective for your Frenchie. If you have a cat, another story! Just remember cats do not tolerate citrus oils.
DeleteYay! I had enough beeswax to make one jar of the LLP. It's cooling and I'm going to have my hubby try it tonight, and I'll be trying on my Frenchie.
DeleteWould you know the shelf life? does it need to be refrigerated?
ReplyDeleteJamie, at least a year...probably more. No, the Salve doesn't need to be refrigerated :))
DeleteIs the recipe for the antiseptic for one jar or for four jars?
ReplyDeleteThe EO amounts for the antiseptic recipe above is for ONE jar :))
DeleteThank you!! :)
DeleteHow do you feel about using these products during pregnancy? Including the blemish balm with tea tree and lavender. I read many conflicting things. A lot of skin care lines have essential oils in them that are specific to pregnant women, and then I read stay away from essential oils if you are pregnant. Frustrating.
ReplyDeleteDanielle, I understand that it's very confusing...so much conflicting information out there for pregnant women. You need to follow your instincts here, if you're using a pure plant essence without additives or pesticides I believe you're fine to use any doTERRA oil. Peppermint shouldn't be used in the 3rd trimester however because it can cause milk reduction. My daughters have all used doTERRA EOs all through their pregnancies and benefited greatly. I'd like to recommend an excellent book to you...written by a midwife who uses doTERRA EOs for pregnancy, labor and birth, an excellent book!

I seem to be overly sensitive for some reason to using oils neet so I have mixed them with a carrier. It still seems to effect me when I put it on my neck/shoulders for muscle tension and headache. Any suggestions on how to get benefits from the oils applying to my body externally? I take LLV daily and really want the oils to work for me on headaches and muscle aches.
ReplyDeleteThank you in advance!!
My advice to start with TINY amounts of EO mixed with carrier oil. Taking the LLV Pack will help you ease the sensitivity too I believe but, always listen to your body :))
DeleteRebecca, what a fabulous post! I am a Herbalist, so I'd be interested to see what sources you may have consulted concerning the anti-aging benefits of EOs.
ReplyDeleteAll my best,
Wade
Wade, thank you! Frankincense and Lavender have clinical studies to back the anti-aging claim, linking them to regeneration and restoration of tissue. Frankincense even has anti-cancer properties. Cypress is very beneficial for good circulation.
DeleteHi ya Rebecca, thanks for the post :)
ReplyDeleteand thanks for your face cleansing recipe too! I made it for myself about 2 weeks ago, I've already noticed the benefit but have still to make it through the adjustment period ;)
I'm mid-30 and have really sensitive skin so I only used the lavendar essential oil to play it safe. As you had used 3 drops each of 4 eo's, I decided to use 9 drops of the lavendar eo.
I just wanted to check with you about quantity of eo drops per batch. What would be the maximum amount of drops? And is there a rule of thumb for facial products?
Many thanks,
Dee
There isn't a rule of thumb except to start with fewer drops then work up to more if needed. We all accept essential oils differently, it basically comes down to what works best for YOU :)
DeleteI LOVE SPRING because it means winter is over! :D I have such dry skin, that itches all the time (especially around my abdomen)that I can hardly wait to try your All Purpose Healing Salve! I've been waiting to find some 4 oz jars, but I think I'll run to Wal-Mart and find SOMETHING!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for all this information Rebecca. I've been slowing getting into doTERRA EOs for the past year and it helps to have a reliable source of information. I know these posts take a lot of time to put together; I SO appreciate it!
You're very welcome, thank you :))
DeleteMade some salves today! So excited to try them! You are amazing. Thank You for sharing your knowledge and love of doTERRA EO's! ~Mindy
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! I love what I get to do everyday :))
DeleteWould it make a difference if you used solid beeswax grated, or does it have to be pastillies?
ReplyDeleteAlso would this recipe be good for diaper cream with meleluca and or on guard. Thought it would be better then all the chemicals in the other cream!
Thank you
Cindy
Cindy, you can use grated beeswax too but you'll have to experiment with the amount, I've always used pastilles so I can't give you exact measurement.
DeleteMy daughters use Healing Salve all the time for diaper rash and dry patches on babies and kids alike...it's great!
What exactly will the pastilles do? Does it make it more oily or more solid?
DeleteThank you for your help, I love your site!
The beeswax, whether in pastille form or grated gives the salve stability.
Deletewhat would be a good mix of EOs for doing this as a VICKS VAPOR RUB alternative for stuffy noses and coughs for my kids.
ReplyDeleteBreathe blend and Frankincense, 2 parts Breathe 1 part Frank :))
DeleteHow many total drops of each Frankincense and Breathe would you recommend putting in a 4 ounce jar?
Delete20 drops Breathe, 10 Frankincense.
DeleteCan you make this without the beeswax? I know it won't really be a solid salve, but is there another reason to use the beeswax? What if you use not fractionated coconut oil and just keep it in the fridge? I'm new at this. :)
ReplyDeleteYou can certainly alter this recipe to your needs. I like a salve consistency as well as the whole properties of cold pressed, extra virgin olive oil. Even in the refrigerator, fractionated FCO won't solidify...and there' no need otherwise to refrigerate the salve. All this said, have fun with it and experiment...make it what you want it to be :))
DeleteThanks!
DeleteHi! Hope I can still get an answer to my question:
ReplyDeleteCan you add more beeswax to the recipe to make it a little more "solid"?
My kids think it is a little too oily and they really need it for their hands- lots of dishwashing and handwashing in their jobs!
Thank you for your help!
It is a salve...but, feel free to add a little more beeswax if you like :))
DeleteI'm wondering if for the "Imortelle" blend what ratio you would add the Helichrysum and Rose. I have the Heli. on hand. I don't yet have the Imortelle blend and would like to test this original blend. Would they both just be at the same ratio as the Lavender, Frank., and Cypress?
ReplyDeleteYes, I would just add another part to the recipe...with Helichrysum :))
Deletebut what if you are allergic to lavendar? so far all these wonderful salves would make me ill :-( i'm extremely sensitive to smelling or handling lavender. is there something to use in place of it?
ReplyDeleteKay, you can use any EOs you like in a the Healing Salve. Perhaps substitute the Lavender with Frankincense as it has much the same properties as Lavender and then some!
Deletedo you have to use glass for the salve? I bought some plastic salve containers from Aroma Tools. Can I use them?
ReplyDeleteI've used plastic sample containers for the salve...it's not a PERFECT choice but should be fine. The ratio of EOs is small compared to the coconut and olive oil :))
DeleteOf the four salve blends, which do you think would be the best for a small child with occasional eczema? It doesn't seem to have any pattern/allergy to it; small spots just show up randomly on legs and belly. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI recommend making the basic All Purpose Healing Blend with Lemon, Lavender and Melaleuca for this, its very gentle and effective :))
DeleteThank you! Her skin is pretty bad right now, so I will definitely be making a batch tomorrow!
DeleteWhat company do you buy your pastilles from? I have read a couple of different sites with reviews and the one complaint is smell. Any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteI bought my pastilles from www.mountainroseherbs.com. $12.50 for a one pound bag. The smell isn't very strong. All I smell in the salve I made are the oils I put in.
