Ready Made Coconut Dots!
A Healthy Convenience!
I use so much coconut oil daily that I buy it by the gallon. I fill a few small mason jars and keep them around the house but, the routine isn't exactly convenient. Inevitably, honey, jam or oatmeal gets in the kitchen coconut oil jar (breakfast), and because I never seem to have a spoon in the bathroom, I end up sticking my finger in the jar for a little oil pulling. Coconut Dots to the rescue!
This little tutorial will be short and sweet because there's nothing to this! I make small batches Coconut Dots with softened coconut oil, and this is my favorite brand! {Click Here}
2 cups coconut oil ~ softened.
Whip or whisk to get most of the lumps out - as smooth as you can get it without beating it to death :) I can get away with whisking it for a few minutes.
The brand I buy and the climate I live in allows for soft coconut oil. We have the heat on now so the house stays at 68 degrees.
{Hot climate? Store your (liquid) coconut oil in the refrigerator over night bringing it to a hardened state. Remove it 2 hours before you're ready to make your dots or when soft...the consistency of sour cream for example}.
Scoop the soft coconut oil into a large ziploc plastic bag, this is your makeshift pastry bag!
Twist the bag enough to get all the coconut oil down into one corner.
Keep hold of the twisted section with one had and snip off 1/4" at an angle from the tip of the corner with a pair of scissors.
Time to Make Coconut Dots!
Cover a cookie sheet with foil, squeeze your desired size dots ~ they don't have to be perfect but shoot for the soft-serve ice cream cone technique, this will keep your dots compact.
Slide the cookie sheet into the freezer for 5 minutes.
Remove and pop off the dots, toss into a cold mason jar!
The Coconut Dots need to be stored in the refrigerator unless you live in a igloo :)
Here's a few ideas for your new Coconut Oil Dots!
{because we all need more coconut oil in our diet}
* just a dot on toast with honey or jam *
* just a dot in your morning coffee *
* just a dot in your morning bowl of oatmeal *
But my all time favorite use for Coconut Dots?
Oil Pulling!
If you're an Oil Puller, one Coconut Dot is all you'll need. Just drip your desired EOs on the snowy orb of coconut oil, the EOs will absorb right in and you're ready for 20 minutes of pulling those toxins!
My favorite EO combination for Oil Pulling is 1 drop each:
Frankincense, Shield and Melaleuca
This is a fabulously healthy habit for better oral health!

OK..so before I read the articles, I wondered what oil pulling was....so I am thinking..."a way to pull the coconut milk out", a way to retrieve the white part of the coconut and pull it apart"..then I read it. I had never heard of it, but I am going to make me some dots and try it! Yes, my next purchase will be a gallon because my 54 oz are going fast!
I love this! I've started using coconut oil more and is a pain when I only need a little and have to scrape it out of the jar. Last time that I made pancakes, I used it as pan coat. It turned out so yummy!
What a great tip, Rebecca! I have been oil pulling for a few months now and added EOs for the first time this morning and it made it much more palatable.
What a great idea!
I'm still confused. You do what with these dots ? They are edible? excuse my ignorance, but I still have no clue what pulling oil is ! ?
Oil Pulling - (Google it) there are mounds of information about it but here it is in a nutshell: Oil pulling or oil swishing is a traditional Indian folk remedy that involves swishing oil in the mouth, an ancient practice that has gained modern popularity in promoting oral health by reducing bacteria, plaque, and infection in the mouth.
I wish-wish-wish I could do oil pulling but it **totally** makes me gag. Gross. Might try with EOs and see if that helps like Jude above.
Andrea, it really does help. Give it a try and let us know how you do! I used one drop of Peppermint and one drop of Shield and it was very pleasant. :)
Try another oil. My hubby can't do it with coconut but he uses sesame. And start out for a few min at a time.
I LOVE the idea of making coconut buttons for oil pulling...I hate having to dig the stuff out each morning so I've been really bad about sticking with the program. Just how much do you think is in an oil pulling dot? They recommend about 1 Tablespoon but that large amount not liquified makes me gag so when motivated I liquify it in the microwave for a few seconds, but it's a pain in the neck.
Try a different coconut oil brand. I have found that some brands tote a strong coconut smell and taste (makes me gag when oil pulling but great for cooking) and other brands have no taste at all (my preference for oil pulling and homemade toothpaste).
