ACV Tonic with a Twist!

The Age of Apple Cider Vinegar is Here!

ACV has long been considered a panacea of good health by natural health enthusiasts. Taking a tablespoon or two of it's mouth puckering tartness is said to cure everything from allergies to sinusitis.  The age of ACV as a health tonic is truly here and there's lots of documented health benefits to justify it!

I've dabbled with ACV as a daily tonic for awhile now, only recently adding EOs. Today's post is inspired by a happy accidental discovery...improved taste and other benefits by adding the amazing properties of PURE Frankincense and Shield Protection Blend for a healthier tonic!

Short Summary of Organic ACV...

It's best to take use an organic apple cider vinegar with "the mother" in it to be of most benefit.  The "mother" is a stringy looking ball of matter that settles at the bottom of the bottle or floats on the top. This is the source of the sour, fermented taste but, it's the good stuff,  full of enzymes, minerals and nutrients.  Shake and take!

ACV is the poster child for "if it tastes bad, then it's probably good for you!".

A Few Good Things About ACV

1.  Apple cider vinegar can prevent indigestion:  drink a glass of water with a teaspoon of ACV and a teaspoon of honey (if desired) 30 minutes before a meal and you'll be surprised how good you'll feel after that meal, especially if it's something that normally causes you heartburn or indigestion.

2.  In a study published in 2009 in Bioscience, Biotechnology and Biochemistry, it was found that subjects who consumed acetic acid for 12 weeks experienced significant declines in body weight, abdominal fat, waist circumference and triglycerides.

3.  ACV helps to break up mucous in the body and clean up lymph nodes.  Research shows that it can help with allergies and sinus congestion because of it's mucous busting abilities.

4.  ACV is rich in natural enzymes that can help rid your body of candida - yeasts that are attributed to humans.  Candida can be the culprit of low energy, poor memory, sugar cravings and yeast infections.

Have I convinced you ACV is worth the pucker?

Alrighty then, let me tell you about the sweet accidental discovery came about!  Because I had a nagging feeling of a cold coming on, I decided to add 2 drops of Shield Protective Blend to my daily 2 tablespoon ACV dose.  Shield is another great way to give your immunity system a kick in the proverbial pants with it's special blend of Clove, Cinnamon Bark, Lemon, Eucalyptus and Rosemary.  By adding Shield the ACV tonic takes on a cinnamon spice flavor and eases the after taste substantially!

"I added 2 drops of Shield to my 2 tablespoons ACV this morning as you suggested the other day. Great idea!!! It actually made it have a better aftertaste. I will continue to do this. It also seemed to take some of the throat burn away."  Vicki R.

One more addition to my daily ACV tonic...
2 drops Frankincense.

I take Spark Naturals PURE Frankincense under my tongue every day, rarely do I forget, that's how important I feel it is for me. Frankincense is a regenerative EO, it can aid in the fight against cancer, fight inflammation, can calm a seizure and the list goes on. Frankincense also enhances all other EOs, it just seemed a natural thing to do, adding it to my ACV tonic.  I'll be honest, the shot glass of ACV and EOs isn't pleasant, but the benefits are!  By the way, you can dilute the ACV tonic with water but I choose the "bottoms up" route, it's faster :)

Dare I challenge you?

The first time I tried ACV I gagged so bad, I thought I was done with ACV forever. Since that horrible experience, I've been adding (lots of) raw honey and a few drops of EOs for a long time now. My favorite by far is lemon, but I dabble in some of the others depending on what I need/feel like. (I also learned that adding lemon EO to a cough remedy I make for my husband made it so he was much more willing to take it!) I love the idea of adding Shield during the cold and flu season!

I would sometimes take ACV and I sometimes take Shield. I am pretty consistent with the Frankincense. Thank you for the boost I needed. I measured 2 tbsp. in a shot glass and marked the level. Anything to make it easier to run around in the morning.

Questions - Does it matter if the ACV is taken on an empty or full stomach? I have heard that too much ACV will damage tooth enamel. Is this true or a problem?

Thanks so much.

Wow. I never thought of putting EOs in with ACV. I have drank diluted ACV in the past but stopped. This has convinced me to get back on the bandwagon. I'll try it straight up as a wake-me-up in the morning. LOL
A question about Frankincense: I use it neat on my face. It has gotten rid of a basal cell spot so I use it daily to ward them off. So if I'm putting a few drops on my face would I still need to take it internally? Would it even matter to do both?
Also My daughter uses (neat) Frankincense to get rid of her severe acne (on face and back). She's so thrilled to have found something safe, that works and softens her skin at the same time.

Mary, if were me...I would add a drop or two to my ACV as well - let it get down into your gut and work it's magic :)

ACV is never pleasant to taste but oh so good for you! The Shield and the Frankincense to temper the sourness but it's still a bitter shot ;)

I have mixed ACV in with my smoothies in the morning. Very tasty. I'm a little skittish about just drinking it straight up because in my mind something that acidic is probably eating away at my tooth enamel. I know someone who regularly ate lemons and yes, her enamel was dissolved quite a bit. I've read stuff on the internet that corroborates the idea that ACV is amazing stuff but there are also ways to get it into yourself without putting your teeth at risk.

I have read about 400 - 600 pages, blogs, websites, books & talked to maybe 200 people face to face, and they all have preached about the great things about ACV...
HOWEVER,
when I talked to my doctors(all 6 of them) about ACV, they all told me not to ingest it because the acid in ACV, tears up your intestines...which leaves you open to illness, infection, ulcers, etc...

So....I'm kind of stuck between a rock & a hard space. :(

You'll have to follow your instincts here. Just remember that natural remedies take business from MDs, most (not all) will rarely be in agreement with natural alternatives.
