DIY Lavender Dryer Balls For Lovely Laundry!

Your list of provisions for lovelier laundry includes:  a pair of clean cotton crew socks and a bottle of doTERRA Lavender essential oil.  This is almost too easy blog about!

Drop 15 to 20 drops of Lavender essential oil onto the foot section of {one} sock.  Ahhhhhh...just imagine how your fresh, clean laundry's going to smell!

Now tuck scented sock up inside the tube section of the same sock.  Push  this balled up sock down into the toe of the second sock.  Twist the second sock to add a little bulk to the Dry Ball...then pull the opening of the sock down onto itself until you have a tight ball.  The tighter the better because in addition to scenting your laundry, the Dryer Ball will fluff the load of laundry too!

 * Two Dryer Balls would be absolutely brilliant for fluffing and freshening pillows in the dryer *

Suddenly it's exciting to do laundry again (was it ever?).  I couldn't wait for my sheets to be dry so I could breathe in their linen and lavender scent!

P.S.  A Dryer Ball with 15 to 20 drops of essential is good for approximately 10 to 15 loads!

I love this idea. long does this last? More than one dryer load? I recently bought some all natural lavender linen spray but the scent really isn't very obvious.

Oh my gosh, I love this. So timely. Just yesterday I was looking around the house for something I could put some drops of lavender oil on and throw into the dryer.

I absolutely love this idea. I also cannot wait to try your fabric softener blend. I too have a blog and you will likely see me credit you with these DIY projects in the near future! ~ http://glorioslygfmom.blogspot.com

Have you tried this with other scents of oil, such as a eucalyptus or peppermint? I am not a big fan of lavender, but I love the idea of citrus or mint scents and I think eucalyptus would be great to do the sheets in when we are suffering with colds this time of year! Thanks for the great ideas!

I made dryer balls using tennis balls (old one would work fine if you had them, and my daughter told me that Family dollar carries some cheap one - After I bought mine)& placed them inside old, clean tube socks. I think I used 1 tube sock for the 3 balls. Cut the sock into sections (you might only get 2), put ball inside a section, and tied a knot in each end!

I had read about the wool balls, but am allergic to wool, and did not like the idea of wool balls in my dryer, getting wool lint on all my clothing. I have put fabric softener (homemade or commercial either one would work) on the ends. Could easily put a few drops of essential oil on the ends, if I could figure out what fragrance I'd like to use. NOT lavender, which I don't like. (Used to think i was the only person out there that didn't like it, but am finding more & more people who don't.) To each his/her own!

Of course making a ball from just socks is cheaper!! Unless you have old balls which you are recycling.

I can understand being allergic to wool and not wanting to go with the wool balls, but I'm going to rain on your parade with your tennis balls. There's a chemical in the tennis ball that, when heated in your dryer, is releasing toxins into your clothing.

Oh, I have GOT to try this. I loved the wool felted ball idea and bought myself 2 skeins of 100% wool suitable for felting (it said so on the package). I spent 2 evenings getting cramps in my hands winding them into tight balls. Followed the instructions for felting, but they would not felt.

Socks seam much easier. Are these full size adult socks? The size in the last 2 pics made me wonder if they were toddler or kid socks.

I also Label a Freezer baggie one with lavender on it so when I opt to use a different scent it keeps its smell.
I did 5 loads today on one sock with lavender, and it still smells great :)

So excited to try this! Quick question for you... do these help with static cling as well? We've been having a lot of trouble with clingy clothing!

I love, love, LOVE your blog! Thanks for all the fabulous ideas! I like to put a dry washcloth with about 5 safety pins attached to take away static cling
:-)

The heat of the dryer releases toxic chemicals from the rubber in the tennis balls. I would not recommend using those at all.
