Easy Oil Pulling Blend with Essential Oils
Make it a Habit in 2014
Oil pulling is becoming a mainstream practice around here. Quickly gaining popularity for it's ability to reduce nasty bacteria that causes plaque build up, gum disease, tooth decay and gum sensitivity...Oil Pulling is here to stay. And, your teeth will get whiter in the process! I've been oil pulling for a couple years, I'd like to share a time saving step that can help you make it a habit in 2014 too.
By the way, if all of this is new to you, here's a more in depth blog post on the subject of oil pulling {click here}. Be sure to come back and learn now to make a quick and easy blend for your new healthy habit, oil pulling!
I use only 3 ingredients: organic coconut oil and 2 100% pure therapeutic grade essential oils: Melaleuca and Shield, a protective blend.
Melaleuca is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-septic, expectorant, immune stimulant and decongestant.
Shield has strong anti-viral properties, just what you want swishing around in your mouth every day. The blend contains Lemon, Cinnamon Bark, Clove Bud, Eucalyptus radiata and Rosemary essential oils.
Coconut oil contain Lauric Acid, a healthy fat that's proven to be anti-microbial.
To save time oil pulling, make a 2 week supply of an Oil Pulling Blend rather than gathering all of the ingredients every time you swish. It's easy, just use a whisk and a 1/2 pint mason jar:
Recipe
_______________________________
1 cup softened coconut oil
16 drops Melaleuca
16 drops Shield
Whisk softened coconut oil and essential oils together until well blended and smooth. Add to a 1/2 pint mason jar or container of your choice preferably glass as essential oils can leach petrochemicals from plastic.
Once a day if possible, put approximately one tablespoon of the Oil Pulling Blend in your mouth and swish slowly for 20 minutes. Keep busy, it's great to do this while showering or vacuuming etc. Do not swallow! The oil will be full of bacteria and other nasty stuff, you'll want to spit it in the garbage at the end of your 20 minutes. Brush your teeth and feel the difference! Your teeth will feel smooth and clean every time.
As always, enjoy 10% off every Spark Naturals order!

can you use FCO instead?
What a great idea!!! I keep coconut oil in my bathroom for this - but adding the EO's before hand will be great! Will be doing this soon (still out of Shield).
What a great idea! Thanks
you can! That's what I use.
I've never used the solid form of coconut oil before. I have a question though....once it's softened and the oils of choice are added, doesn't the CO get hard again? And if it is hard and you put a spoonful in mouth, does it liquefy? Sorry...may sound like a silly question, but I don't know!
Coconut oil melts at something like 76 or 78 degrees so your body heat melts it in your mouth very quickly.
I already use coconut oil toothpaste, so this'll be great extra thing to do! I'm so paranoid about the health of my teeth (><)
Just have to ask..does this taste *bad*???
I don't mind it at all! The strongest taste is Melaleuca but it's all tempered by the coconut oil and Shield. Feel free to add Peppermint or Frankincense - there are other EOs that can be helpful as well :)
Shield...can I get that in the UK? :-)
I wish you could!
I just did this tonight. I am out of coconut oil so I temporarily substituted olive oil. I personally prefer coconut oil so I will be buying more tomorrow. And I am just discovering all the wonders of Shield...it is amazing! I think I will be buying the bigger bottle next time I order.
Hi, I am new to oil pulling and have been having some unexplained ear/throat pain ( I have been to the doctors and have ruled out a lot, including an MRI of head) Anyway, I tried it this morning with 1 TBS of pure coconut oil and some lemon juice (I don't have Lemon EO) I was only able to do it for about 3 minutes because I started feeling lumps in my mouth...yuck! Is that a normal thing or is that my mouth being so toxic that it was working immediately. I have never done this and so I am not sure what the normal is. Thanks, I have been really enjoying your reads on EO's. I am just starting to look into Eo's and figure which way to go. I am excited about this journey!
Hi Jen! Until you get some pure EOs, I would omit the lemon juice and pull with just the oil for now. Lemon juice is very acidic where the essential oil is not - that may be why your mouth reacted like it did.
Can you do oil pulling if you have metal fillings in your mouth?
Just a thought to keep in mind about the solid coconut oil. Your body temperature is warm enough to liquefy it, but if you spit it down the drain when you are done, it will eventually be hit with cold water and solidify again. I highly recommend spitting it into the trash when you are done, never down the drain.
