Cotton Ball Protocols for Earaches & Tinnitus
Simple & Safe
Be sure to include the simple cotton ball as part of your fragrant pharmacy for issues like ear infections and Tinnitus, let me tell you why. It's a simple and safe way to apply pure essential oils to the ear of little ones and adults alike allowing the vapor of the oils to safely penetrate deep into the ear and get to the issue.
Ear Infection
Kids are the most likely victim of an ear infection, in fact, 2 out of 3 colds will result in an ear infection. Why is that? Kids immune systems are less mature and their little ears don't drain as well as adults do. In the photo above notice the Eustachian tube, this connects the middle ear to the throat. Often when kids catch cold the Eustachian tube swells and blocks drainage creating a perfect breeding ground for virus or bacteria to thrive.
Let's cut to the chase! Kids with ear episodes generally have multiple episodes and if treated over and over again with synthetic antibiotics their resistance to antibiotics builds and their immune system weakens creating a frustrating and damaging cycle of infection. Repeat ear infections can generate scar tissue that will eventually affect hearing and balance.
Cotton Ball Protocol #1
________________________________
2 drops Basil on half of a cotton ball.
Insert gently into the infected ear and leave in over night to let the vapor of the oil penetrate into the ear. Pain relief should be almost immediate.
Basil: anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, anti-biotic, anti-spasmodic, decongestant.
Cotton Ball Protocol #2
_________________________________
Insert gently into the infected ear and in leave over night to let the vapor of the oil penetrate into the ear. Pain relief should be almost immediate.
Geranium: analgesic, anti-bacterial, can reduce symptoms of Candida, stimulates lymphatic and circulatory systems (good for drainage), astringent.
Note: If excess ear wax is a problem, 2 drops of Basil on a cotton ball overnight in the ear can help reduce wax build up and keep ear infections at bay. Start this protocol immediately if you suspect ear is tender at all.
Tinnitus
Tinnitus is described as a ringing in the ears but it can be several different sounds like clicking, whistling or buzzing. Tinnitus isn't a disease but a symptom of something underlying and most often related to getting older somehow. The symptoms can be very mild or intense with or without dizziness.

What about for babies? My sons first instinct would be to rip it out and put it in his mouth...
You could use a bit of medical tape to hold it in. That's what my mum did for my brother.
Help! Your "search" is not working. You are my go to for essential oil info so I rely on the search to find what I need :) Thanks for the great work you do!
I've done this and I just rip off an ear-canal-sized piece of the cotton ball and stick it in the ear. It's not so deep that you can't reach it to get it out, but it's definitely not easy for little fingers' fine motor skills to get to. They haven't quite mastered the pincher grasp well enough to get in there.
The same thing has been happening to me, so what I've been doing is I will google "campwander sinus bomb" (or whatever I'm looking for) and it will bring up lots of choices. I have noticed it on other blogs too, so I wonder if it's my browser or something.
Can you do this if you ARE taking antibiotics as well?
In addition to?
Thanks!

Could the helichrysum cause stinging? I keep using the recipe exactly how it's written, and after about 5 min my ears start stinging, with no change in ringing. The stinging continues well after I remove the cotton.
